Longtime nemesis Boston University scored four early goals en route to a 5-2 win over Vermont in America East men’s soccer at Nickerson Field on Sunday afternoon.

“We never had our legs right from the start today,” commented Vermont coach Roy Patton. “They are a talented team and they took advantage of that. We played harder in the second half and we look forward to getting a fresh start in the playoffs, especially at home.”

The Terriers used goals by David Fahey, Federico Bianchi, Anthony D’Angelo and Andrew Dorman to race out to a 4-0 lead at the break. Vermont bounced back with goals by Keli Helgason (56th minute) and Ronan Keegan (69th minute) to cut the margin in half. But one minute after Keegan tallied his first career goal, Dorman, who also had two assists, put the game out of reach with his second goal.

Ryan Corry made two saves in the first half for Vermont before David Sullivan came on in the second to also make two stops. Matt Smith finished with four saves for B.U.

The win extended Boston U.’s mastery over the Catamounts to 13-0-3 in the last sixteen meetings. It also snapped a 0-3-2 stretch this season for the Terriers (8-6-2, 3-3-1), who earlier in October were ranked as high as ninth in the nation.
