X Continues Title Run

Thursday’s game between Team X andTeam Y had a higher potential of being a blood bath than Al Roker’s cholesterol level.

Both X and Y came into Thursday coming off huge wins the previous weeks. Player 12 for X was a human highlight reel tallying a hat trick and adding an assisit in their 5-0 victory. Y, on the other hand, won a defensive stand-off by scoring in the last minute of the game to hold on for a 1-0 win.

“This matchup tonight has huge playoff implications,” said X goalie, Player 19, who hails from the Ukraine and has yet to allow a goal in three games. “When two of the best teams in the league come head-to-head, good and bad things are sure to happen.”

The first half of the first period featured plenty of back and forth action which tested both team’s stamina. X managed to keep Y from getting in too close to the net which allowed 19 to have plenty of time to track down the shots.

With time winding down in the first period, 12 ripped a low shot which was stopped initally by Y goalie, Player 7, but X winger, Player 14, was sitting on the doorstep to bang it home.

“Their forwards are just too strong and our defensemen can’t handlle them in front of the net,” said Y captain Player 42. “We need to be blocking more shots that come from the point so they don’t get loose infront of the net.”

In the first two minutes of the second period, X took over offensively. X winger Player 17 took a blistering shot from the point but an all out diving save by 7 kept the score at 1-0.

The second period also brought much more physical play. Y center, Player 31, used his six-foot four, 238 pound frame to fend off defenders on his way to the net. He used his size to his adavntage when overpowering X’s small but persistent defenseman, Player 2, to get off a shot that trickled through 19’s legs and across the crease but avoided crossing the goal line.

Player 54 moved the play to Y’s end where 12 fed 17 in front of the net who buried the second goal of the game.

“I want to give 7 a lot of credit. It was 7’s effort which kept the game as close as it was for as long as it was, ” commented 17 on the efforts of Y’s goaltender.

With three mintues left to go in the game X got their third and final goal off a nice two on one play between 54 and 2.

The 3-0 win seals X’s place atop the standings with a 3-0 record. X has 11 goals for and no goals against for the season.
