Two members of the UVM community died after a tree was blown by 70 mph winds onto the roof of their car last week.

Maggie Potter ‘16, 23, and her boyfriend Maxwell Muessig, 20, died at the scene in Freeman Township, Michigan March 8, according to a March 9 Michigan Live article.

The couple were on their way to Muessig’s mother’s house, the article reported.

Potter and Muessig, who met at UVM in 2016 before Muessig transferred, were referred to as “soulmates” by Potter’s father, the article reported.

During her time at UVM, Maggie was a member of Tri Delta sorority, according to a letter from Annie Stevens, vice provost for student affairs.

She graduated with a degree in psychology, the letter stated.

Friends including many members of the UVM community have posted in a Facebook page commemorating Potter’s life.

Family services will be held for Potter April 1 in Jamestown, Rhode Island, Stevens’  letter stated.
