The Vermont Women’s soccer team was not in top form when the Hartford Hawks rolled past them 4-0 in an America East Conference game on Thursday. The Catamounts had only four shots in the game compared to Hartford’s 29.

Hartford Junior Jeanette Akerlund took six shots in the game and had three goals to tally a hat trick for the Hawks.

For Vermont, one great opportunity to score went about six inches wide of the net early in the second half. The Hawks also had some great opportunities due to some holes in the Vermont defense, but were not very accurate with their shots and were kept to only one goal in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Brooke Fairbanks did a good job of keeping the net empty for about 25 minutes in the second half, and

junior keeper Katie Duffy continued it when she came in with 19 minutes remaining, but with only 10 minutes left in the game, the Hawks carried the ball in past three Vermont defenders as Akerlund netted her third of off a pass from Sophomore Libby Wood.

Hartford goalkeepers Heather Hinton and Stephanie Doyle combined for the shutout for the Hawks.

U.S. Women’s Soccer standout Kristine Lilly visited the game on Thursday and signed autographs and took pictures with fans.

Lilly was visiting Burlington as part of a fundraising event to benefit the Jarred Williams Foundation, an organization that trains youth peer leaders in substance-abuse prevention and leadership skills.
