Player’s Guide: who is playing, where they’re from and what their season looks like so far

 

THE STARTING LINEUP

#3 Anthony Lamb

First-year forward from Rochester, New York

Lamb is one of only two players to have started every game this season. He leads the team in points with 427 (average of 12.6/game) and total rebounds with 183 (average of 5.4/game). Earlier in the season, he became the first ever Catamount to collect seven America East Rookie of the Week awards. He was also named the America East Rookie of the Year and made the Second Team All-Conference. Lamb also became the first first-year to win the Most Outstanding Player in the America East Tournament.

#34 Kurt Steidl

Senior guard from Ridgefield, Connecticut

Steidl has played the most minutes in the team this season with 993 (average of 29.2/game). He also leads the team in defensive rebounds with 135. Earlier in the season, Steidl became the 35th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point mark. He also became the first ever Vermont player to reach 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 200 three-pointers.

#35 Payton Henson

Redshirt junior forward from Siloam Springs, Arkansas

Henson is third in points with 331 (average of 11.4/game), offensive rebounds with 40, and defensive rebounds with 115. Henson really stepped it up in the playoffs, reaching double digits in both the America East semifinal against New Hampshire and final against Albany. He was named in the All-Championship team along with teammates Anthony Lamb and Dre Wills.

#2 Trae Bell-Haynes

Junior guard from Toronto, Ontario

Like Lamb, Bell-Haynes has been ever present in the starting lineup for Vermont. Bell-Haynes has the second most points in the team with 378 (average of 11.1/game). He leads the team in assists with 130 (average of 3.8/game), a whooping 60 more than the second player on the team. He also leads the team in steals with 38. The Canadian was named the America East Player of the Year and in the America East First Team All-Conference.

#20 Ernie Duncan

Redshirt sophomore guard from Evansville, Indiana

Duncan is the leading three-point shooter in the team, having scored 72 times from downtown this season. He also has the highest free throw percentage, with .829. Duncan is the second in assists with 70 (average of 2.1/game). He also scored the highest points in a single game this season, a whooping 33 points against Hofstra Nov. 22.

KEY BENCH PLAYERS

#12 Darren Payen

Redshirt senior forward from Milford, Connecticut

Payen has come off the bench in all but two games this season and has reached double digits in nine occasions. Payen is the team leader in field goal percentage, making 71.3% of his shots. Payen was named the America East Sixth Man of the Year.

#24 Dre Wills

Senior guard from Indianapolis, Indiana

Coming off the bench 31 times this season, Wills was second in steals with 32 and tied for third in blocks with 21. Wills contributed with 221 points and 121 rebounds. He made the All-Defensive Team and was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year.

#25 Drew Urquhart

(Junior forward from Vancouver, British Columbia)

Urquhart started 11 games this season, coming off the bench 22 times. He was second in offensive rebounds with 47 and tied for this in blocks with 21. Urquhart contributed to the team’s success with 19 assists, and hit double digits in points in three different occasions.

#14 Cam Ward

(Junior guard from Marshall, Wisconsin)

Ward has not started any games this season, but he has seen playing time every game. He was third in assists with 57 (averaging 5.7/game), and reached double digits in points twice during the season.

Came off the bench 27 times during the season, playing 20 minutes against Hartford. Recorded 5 rebounds against Binghamton.

Came off the bench 9 times during the season, playing 19 minutes against Lyndon State.

#44 Nate Rohrer
Redshirt junior forward from Underhill, Vermont

Came off the bench 13 times during the season, playing 22 minutes against Eastern Michigan. He registered 4 assists and 2 steals in that game.
