Annie Stevens, vice provost for student affairs, announced Ferguson’s death in a campus-wide email March 4.

Ferguson’s body was found by searchers March 3 near Bingham Falls in Stowe after he fell through the ice while hiking Friday afternoon, according to a March 3 Burlington Free Press article.

The University extends its condolences to Ferguson’s family, and thoughts of sympathy and care are with his friends, classmates and faculty and staff who were close with him, Stevens stated.

Information regarding services for the family or the campus will be sent out as soon as they become available, according to Stevens.

Those in need of additional support following the accident are encouraged to reach out to UVM’s counseling and psychiatry services at (802) 656-3340, the email stated.
