Break in gas main closes Loomis Street

On Wednesday morning, police cars and firetrucks barricaded the intersection of North Prospect and Pearl streets, extending down to the intersection of Loomis and North Willard streets, due to a gas leak.The areas of North Prospect and Loomis streets are predominantly student housing, requiring many to detour around the sectioned off road.Brandi Barbeau of the Burlington Police Dept. confirmed the gas main break at the intersection of Loomis Street & N. Prospect Street in a press release, stating that both the Police and Fire departments are on scene. Barbeau also said that the Police Dept. asked Burlington Electric to hold the power to the area of the city that that gas leak affected.More information to follow.
