Burlington named America’s healthiest city

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) named Burlington the healthiest city in America last November. To make this distinction, the CDCP surveyed the populations of U.S. metropolitan areas asking residents to rate their overall health. The CDCP found that 92 percent of Burlington residents considered themselves to be in a good or great health. In addition to the surveys, Burlington is also one of the most exercised cities, with the lowest obesity and diabetes rates, the CDCP reported. While the population of young college students likely increases overall health standards, it’s clearly not the only factor, UVM Campus Recreation’s Fitness Coordinator Aleksandra Townsend said.”Burlington has a higher awareness in terms of healthy eating and community outreach with a focus on local agriculture and the local economy,” Townsend said.
