Effective July 31, UVM’s president of nine years will step down. President Daniel Mark Fogel announced his resignation due to “deeply personal reasons” in an email to the UVM community. In his message to the University, President Fogel revealed that his decision to step down early was affected by his wife’s ailing mental health and his need to repair their marriage. “I cannot serve the University to the best of my ability while obeying the imperative need I feel today to devote significant time and my very best energies to taking care of her and myself,” the announcement stated. Board of Trustees Chairman Robert Cioffi announced to the UVM community that the board would accept President Fogel’s resignation effective at the end of this month. “I wish to express profound appreciation to Dan Fogel for his many contributions to advancing this vibrant institution. We wish him well in the future,” Cioffi said. The board will be moving quickly to identify an interim president to serve during the presidential selection process, Cioffi said.
