Fogel appoints five to administration

As of July 1, the University of Vermont appointed five faculty members into administrative positions.Patricia Prelock, Bernard Cole, John Evans, Brian Reed and Karry Castano accepted the positions of dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, interim dean of the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, senior advisor to the president, associate provost for curricular affairs and chief of staff to the provost, respectively.University President Daniel Mark Fogel made these announcements public via a July 1 memo sent to the campus community, Board of Trustees and the Board of Advisors for both the colleges of Nursing and Health Sciences and the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.Prelock, dean of and professor in the Department of Communication Sciences, succeeds Betty Rambur, while professor of statistics and Statistics Program Director Cole will succeed Domenico Grasso — who was recently made vice president for research and dean of the Graduate College — according to the memo.Fogel’s memo stated that Evans will work with the vice presidents for research, development and alumni relations and holds an appointment as professor of physiology as well as biophysics in the College of Medicine, including dean of the College of Medicine.Associate dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, interim dean of the college and associate provost for curricular affairs, Reed will work with the Faculty Senate on curricular initiatives, including general education, academic program review and cross-college programming in health and environmental sciences, Fogel stated in the memo.According to the memo, Castano is new to the Office of the Provost, but served as assistant dean for administration in the College of Arts and Sciences.Fogel concluded his memo with his hope to advance UVM as one of the nation’s premier small research universities and with an expression of appreciation to other community members John Highes, Jull Tarule and Dale Jaffe.
