I apologize for my ill-considered remarks

The Cynic this week reported that I conveyed in an SGA discussion on the topic of liveable wages my opinion that all employees should be compensated fairly and equitably, with attention to basic needs. As the Cynic also reported, however, I used the words “idiot” and “Nazi” in an ill-considered attempt to convey the intensity with which I hold that conviction. As a university president, and as an English professor, I should be held to the highest standards of civility in discourse as well as considered use of language. I failed to meet those standards, and for that I extend my most sincere apologies. The issues the discussion encompassed are of great importance to all. I commend the SGA for its attention to the issues and the Cynic for its willingness to report on them.
