This is a rare tragedy that is seen in healthy young active people. It is not common but unfortunately does happen.Loves funeral was held in his native Armonk, N.Y., on Saturday and was attended by hundreds of people including several UVM classmates, The Journal News reported. The family statement described Love as a diligent student and a hardworking athlete who had a particular interest in snowboarding. He had helped set up a Burton rail jam that took place Feb. 15, two days before he was pronounced dead.He did not live just for the future, the family said, a Journal News article stated. He would enjoy the blessings of every daythe beauty of nature, the exhilaration of riding or running, the joy of helping people in simple ways, the satisfaction in reading and learning, and the laughs with family and friends.Love was studying mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and ran on the track and cross-country teams. He was also a member of the Ski & Snowboarding Club.Sudden cardiac death is rare among young athletesthose less than 35 years oldand is often caused by inherited heart problems, according to the results of a National Institute of Health study released in 2007.The study estimated that the likelihood of a sudden cardiac death in athletes was between 1 in 200,000 and 1 in 300,000.
