New laboratory to be built

The technological revolution in medicine may soon arrive at UVM. President Daniel Mark Fogel and Fletcher Allen President and CEO Melinda Estes have announced plans to construct a new Clinical Simulation Lab in the Rowell Building at UVM, a University Communications article stated. “It will have an impact on the way we deliver care to patients and their families and help us to continually improve the quality of care,” Estes said to University Communications. The new lab will allow health students and professionals to practice patient care skills, including various surgical tasks such as drawing blood, wound care, lumbar punctures and others, the article stated. The lab will include adult and child mannequin simulators, six in-patient hospital rooms, an operating room and an intensive care unit, according to the article. A federal grant of $1.75 million and a $4 million gift by Thomas Sullivan funded the lab, the article stated.
