SGA Speaker of the Senate to resign

Two weeks. Three resignations. Following the resignation of two other Senate members, Ana Dru Ellis, Speaker of the Senate, will announce her surprise resignation tonight. “My family life is taking a toll on me, and I can no longer serve as the effective leader that I need to be,” Ellis said. With a student body of 10,000 and an SGA of 42, Ellis said that they can’t afford to have one person holding them back.”It’s my duty to be sure that that I am focused all the time, and I don’t believe I can do that right now,” she said.Ellis has yet to inform her fellow senators about her decision, but she will deliver the news in a speech following the “Public Forum” session of the meeting. There will be an unusual suspension of rules that will enable the Vice President Kate Ash to cross over from the Executive Committee to the Legislative branch and lead the SGA senate meeting while Ellis observes from the audience.”I’ve seen it before from previous speakers…I don’t want to be that speaker,” Ellis said.
