Softball Loses To Albany, Drop to 3-15

The Albany Great Danes swept visiting Vermont, 1-0 and 9-1, in an America East doubleheader this afternoon.In game one, Albany scored the lone run of the game in its first at-bat. Liz Wieboldt doubled to left field and scored on a sacrifice fly by teammate Ashley Rios. That was all the offense the Great Danes would need as Andrea Lindgren tossed a three-hitter and struck out 10 batters to earn her 13th win of the season with the 1-0 shutout. Angie Totaro tossed a complete game for Vermont, allowing six hits and striking out three batters. Albany struck again in the first inning in game two, plating four runs to take a 4-0 lead into the third. Vermont cut the margin to 4-1 in the top of the third inning, but the Great Danes answered with four more runs in the bottom half of the frame to break the game open and go on to the 9-1 win. Kristin Couris and Danielle Buyea combined to scatter six hits and five strikeouts. Kara Massey went the distance for Vermont on the mound, allowing seven hits and striking out four batters.Vermont falls to 5-21 overall and 3-15 in America East, while Albany improves to 24-6 overall and 9-2 in the league. The Catamounts returned to action on Sunday when they hosted Maine in a doubleheader at 12:00pm at Post Field.
