SSU to hold sit in today

Students Stand Up (SSU), an activist group run by UVM students, planned a sit in against February’s budget cuts for April 22, at 2:45 p.m. on the first floor of the Davis Center.SSU released that the walk out scheduled today is in response to the administration’s continued refusal to revoke or rescind any of the decisions that were made concerning Fiscal Year 2010’s budget. This protest follows SSU’s biggest demonstration yet, a class walk-out that drew hundreds of students to the President’s Wing of Waterman on April 9.SSU’s list of 13 demands to UVM’s administration include retracting the dismissals and non-reappointment that were issued to a number of staff and faculty and reinstating the men’s baseball and women’s softball teams that came with February’s cuts.SSU also scheduled a vigil at 5 p.m. today for Burlington and UVM community members to come and join their campaign against the budget cuts.
