Theatre professor to be ALANA studies interim director

Theatre professor Gregory Ramos has been appointed interim director of (Asian Latin American Native American) ALANA U.S. Ethnic Studies for the 2010-1011 academic year. Former director, professor Brian Gilley, has been selected as the director of the First Nations Educational and Cultural Center at Indiana University in Bloomington, according to a news release. Before coming to UVM in 2006 he started the Latino guest artist program at University of Texas at El Paso, the news release stated. Ramos has been a part of the Texas Commission for Arts Performing Arts Panel; Las Americas and a Mexican immigrant advocacy organization. He is the national secretary for the American Theatre in Higher Education’s Latino Focus Group, according to the news release. Ramos will continue to direct and teach playwriting as well as courses related to diversity in the U.S. American theatre.
