Professor and philosophy department chair William “The Man” Mann gave his last lecture on Feb. 10, after 36 years of teaching at UVM.Mann plans to continue his philosophical practices after his retirement as he works to edit a book of essays focusing on Augustine’s Confessions – from which his lecture “Dramas of Disaster and Dreams of Dalliance” related.”It’s been an honor,” Mann said, “and I’m happy to leave the department with the strength its got.”First appointed chair in 1978, Mann specializes in ancient, mediaeval, and philosophy of religion. He will be missed by his colleagues and students.
