UVM steps up to help Irene cleanup

UVM students and faculty have joined forces to assist in flood relief efforts after Hurricane Irene hit parts of southern Vermont, according to University Communications.   Here are some of the ways UVM students can still get involved:   ·      VTResponse.com is working to connect volunteers ready to help with those that need assistance. If you want to help clean up and rebuild, let the folks behind this site know.   ·      Montpelier Alive is coordinating volunteer efforts in Vermont’s capital city through their Facebook page. Volunteer and cleanup efforts are also being coordinated on Twitter via the #VTresponse hashtag.   ·      The Vermont Flooding 2011 page on Facebook is functioning as a community bulletin board of sorts.   ·      The Red Cross is in need of blood donations. Their local donation center is located at 32 North Prospect St.   ·      City Market in Burlington will donate one percent of sales from Saturday, Sept. 3 through Friday, Sept. 16 to the Intervale Farmers’ Recovery Fund.   Source: UVM Leadership and Civic Engagement
