Men’s Soccer Gets First Win of Season

The men’s soccer team took on the undefeated UMBC Retrievers this past Saturday at Centennial Field.

The game started with UVM on the board near the 13-minute-mark with a goal by senior Matt Hennessey. 

Next to score, senior Marty Galvin brought the Catamounts to a 2-0 lead over UMBC. 

With a second goal at the 65-minute-mark, Galvin was able to push the Catamounts to their first win this season. 

The men’s team is currently undefeated in league play this season.

Women’s Soccer Battles UMBC For Win

The women’s team certainly put on a show at last Sunday’s game against UMBC, after coming back from behind. 

The game had you on the edge of your seat, until the final whistle. 

From 2-0, to scoring three consecutive goals to take the lead, UVM played quite the nail biter. 

With goals by freshman, Jess Herbst (2), senior, Carson Laderoute (2), junior Jessica Becker and junior Gabby Bonfigli, Vermont was able to defeat UMBC with a final score of 6-5. 

This was a big win for the women’s team, bringing them to 1-7-3 overall this season.

Rough Weekend For UVM Hockey

The women’s team opened their season with a game against McGill last Sunday. 

Junior, Celeste Doucet was able to give Vermont the lead with a goal at the 10 minute mark. McGill responded, with a power play goal in the second period and with a goal in the last two and a half minutes of overtime, McGill got the win.

The men’s team also opened their season last Sunday, taking on New Brunswick.
The game was forced into overtime with a 2-2 tie after the third period.  But, it was New Brunswick that came out on top after an overtime goal.

Maisey Having a Good Run

The men’s cross country team placed 36th out of the 119 teams running at the 36th annual Brooks Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Oct. 2. 

Senior Doug Maisey ran another great race, coming in 47th overall and leading the Catamounts once again.

He finished with a season best and UVM record time of 24:34.
