Dawley moves on to UMass

Sharon Dawley has resigned as the women’s basketball head coach at the University of Vermont to take a position at the University of Massachusetts. Dawley leaves Vermont as the program’s all-time leader in wins, with a 128-86 record in seven seasons at Vermont.  She owns a very impressive career record of 265-148 in 16 years as a head coach at the collegiate level.

Blakely honored after season ends

Vermont men’s basketball star Marqus Blakely was back on the court last Wednesday in the first game of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Portsmouth, Va.

The senior forward was one of only 64 players invited.

Blakley also earned a trio of honors from CollegeInsider.com, including a spot on the Lou Henson All-America and Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America Teams, and was named the America East Player of the Year by the site.

Blakely is one of 30 Mid-Major finalists to be named for the first year of the Lou Henson Player of the Year Award.

The Lefty Driesell Defensive Player of the Year Award is also a first year award, with Blakely, being one of the top 20 players in the nation honored.
