Stanley Cup Comes to Burlington

Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins goalie and UVM alum, will be parading the Stanley Cup through downtown Burlington on Sept. 3.  The parade will go from the waterfront to Church Street where Thomas will speak for a short time.  Thomas is only the second goaltender to win the Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe and Vezina in the same season.

Catamount to kick it in Finland

Kyle Luetkehans — class of ’11 — has signed a professional soccer contract with PS Kemi Kings in Finland’s first division.  His contract goes through the rest of this season and has an option for next season.  Luetkehans was a team captain last season and was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team.

Women’s soccer tie home opener

The Catamount women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime tie with the Rhode Island Rams on Aug. 23.  Junior Jess Herbst scored for the Cats and sophomore Sarah Leiby had a career-high 10 stops.  The Catamounts will continue with two more games during this homestand, still looking to secure their first win of the season.
