UVM Drops Two to Maine

The Vermont Women’s Hockey team took on the Maine Black Bears in a non-league, two game series on Friday and Saturday in the home opener weekend for the Cats.

Maine won both games, out-shooting Vermont 42-9 on Friday and 44-20 on Saturday. Vermont is now 1-5-0 for the season and the Black Bears start off their season at 2-0-0.

In the Cats’ 4-1 loss on Friday both teams played very physically, drawing a couple of body checking calls, one of which cost Vermont a goal midway through the second period.

Vermont coach Dennis Miller had some positive things to add about the game however, “I thought we did a lot of good things, just not enough. We need to do more simple things like block more shots and be stronger on the puck.”

On Saturday night neither team was able to capitalize on the power plays; however, Vermont going 0-6 and Maine 0-3.
