The UVM women’s basketball team upset the No. 7 ranked team, Wisconsin March 21. This was the first time that the UVM team has beaten a Big 10 school. This is also the team’s first NCAA win in the program’s history.
Vermont was ahead during the first half with a 27-13 lead. But during the second half, Wisconsin pulled ahead after a 12-0 run to bring the game to 37-33.
With a three-pointer by senior May Kotsopoulos in the final ten minutes, UVM brought the game to a 39-39 tie. Senior Courtnay Pilypaitis then brought UVM’s lead to 46-41.
Vermont finished the game by making 19 of their 27 possible points. In the end UVM won the game 64-55.
Pilypaitis scored 25 points and had eight rebounds. Kotsopoulos scored 14 points while freshman Kendra Seto and senior Alissa Sheftic both added seven points each.
Vermont will take on No. 2 seed Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA tournament this Tuesday, March 23.
