Due to the thriving technological talent in Burlington, the city was recently listed as one of the country?s most promising technology hubs by techie.com, according to University Communications.?It?s exciting, you know, to see Burlington thriving in an up-and-coming industry,? sophomore Dylan Burns said.Burlington?s involvement in the ?tech scene? will most likely provide more opportunities for students across fields, Burns said. ?The Burlington community could even see an increased quality of life,? he said.?There are active, overlapping networks in Burlington both physically and in virtual space,? according to techie.com.BTV Ignite, a partner community of the non-profit U.S. Ignite, brings together public, private and academic institutions, including UVM, to utilize the city?s technology resources in creating the next wave of Internet applications, according to University Communications.UVM contributes to BTV Ignite by housing key advanced technology. The University also helps connect all Burlington residents to high-speed Internet through Vermont Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), according to University Communications.The University?s recently proposed $1,000,000 STEM building renovation further demonstrates its commitment to advancing technology, according to University Communications.Code for BTV, a ?civic hacking group? that meets weekly to work on software and hardware projects, is also working to promote technology progress, according to Techie.com.Many University students attend Code for BTV?s meetings.This group has also paired with the University in organizing formal events, such as a food systems hackathon earlier this month, according to University Communications.At the hackathon, BTV worked together with Vermont?s Northeast Organic Food Association to brainstorm how technology could help Vermont?s food system, according to University Communications.Dealer.com, a ?tech? business based in Burlington, also contributes to the local scene by hosting an annual Tech Jam Vermont, an annual career fair and technology expo that showcases Vermont?s most innovative tech and bioscience companies, according to Techie.com.
