Men’s Soccer Ties Portland 1-1 in Smith Barney opener
Men’s soccer kicked off the Smith Barney classic aggressively with freshman DJ Elder scoring a goal in the sixth minute. The Cats held firm possession for the first twenty minutes of play but Portland was soon able to gain form.
UVM went in to half time holding a 1-0 lead but Portland’s burst out of the halftime led to the score being tied within 15 minutes of second half-action.
The two battled tough in a physical game that resulted in three yellow-cards, two on Portland and one being given to UVM’s Kyle Leutkehans.
After two grueling overtimes and no goals a tie was decided. The tournament will continue on Sunday with Portland taking on New Hampshire at 11:00am.
