Petruzelli wins game one, Cats comeback falls short in game two at Boston College
First-year Anthony Petruzzelli scored in overtime to land the Catamounts their first victory in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts since 2009.
Sophomore Mike Santaguida started game one between the pipes and allowed two goals, the second tying the game at two with less than ten seconds left.
First-year Kevin Irwin and sophomore Brady Shaw also scored for the Cats, as Shaw took the team lead in goals from sophomore Mario Puskarich.
Game two did not start off as the Cats expected. The first period produced five goals as the Cats went into the locker room down 3-2. After the second period Boston College had widened their lead to 5-2. Junior Brody Hoffman replaced Santaguida after the 5th goal.
First-years Malcolm McKinney and Travis Blanleil each tallied goals in the first period. It was Blanleil’s first of his NCAA career, according to UVM athletics.
Shaw collected his 13th and 14th goals of the season as the Cats tried to rally in the third period but fell short to the Eagles 6-5.
“It’s tough to lose but when I look at the way we played all weekend here in Chestnut Hill, we have to be optimistic,” Coach Kevin Sneddon said. “The guys showed great character in the third period.”
The Catamounts return to Gutterson Fieldhouse for their final homestand of the season, a weekend series against Hockey East opponent No. 21 Merrimack College. Both games will start at 7:05 pm and will be broadcast on WVMT 620-AM and CatamounTV.
Prior to the game Feb. 20, UVM will honor the senior class, including Jake Fallon, Nick Luukko, Colin Markison, Mike Paliotta, and Kyle Reynolds.
