Catamounts and Bears come to a tie in women’s soccer

When Vermont travelled to Brown University to face the Bears on Sept. 10, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The game was a non-conference contest. Though the first half was scoreless, UVM first year Alexandra Dezenzo scored the first goal of her Vermont career just five minutes into the half, assisted by fellow first year Kerry Glynn. The Bears had an answer though, a mere 47 seconds later and the score was 1-1, where it would remain. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Leiby made eight saves for the Catamounts. The team’s next opponent will be another Ivy League team, Yale, on Sept. 16 in New Haven, Conn.

Seven former UVM student-athletes were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 10. Regan Coffey, class of ‘01 was inducted for track and field. Cats finish strong in field hockey tournament

Vermont captured a convincing 4-1 victory in field hockey on the final day of the Sheraton Catamount Classic. Senior Mackenzie Williams scored two goals and picked up an assist in the win. The win was the fourth-in-a-row for the team who also went 2-0 in the tournament. The Maine Black Bears were also undefeated in the tournament though and they were named the winners due to a tie breaking goal differential. The Catamounts will try to continue their winning streak when they travel to face Monmouth University Saturday.
