After a 20-point loss at Bryant University last Saturday, UVM men’s basketball looked for redemption against Binghamton University at home on Jan. 16.
UVM opened the game with a 9-3 scoring run, forcing the opposing Bearcats to take a time-out just three minutes into the first half.
The Catamounts built their lead to 11 points over Binghamton by the quarter mark with a physical defense—led by senior guard Shamir Bogues’ seven steals—and consistent shot-making.
Approaching halftime, the Cats forced Binghamton into numerous turnovers which they converted into easy points.
Graduate forward Nick Fiorillo caught fire over that stretch, hitting three three-pointers on the other side of the court, bringing UVM to the break ahead 37-31.
In the second half, Binghamton looked determined to take better care of the ball, sending the game back and forth in a tighter competition for the lead.
UVM junior guard TJ Hurley made the difference in the half’s critical minutes.
He shot 56% from the field and 50% from three, hitting a career-high 26 points to lift UVM over Binghamton for the win.
The Cats remain far more successful at home than on the road, with a record of 7-1 at Patrick Gymnasium compared to 4-8 away.
