New multipurpose center’s name is announced
December 18, 2018
The name of UVM’s new arena was announced before the men’s basketball game Dec. 18.
Named after two donors, Rich and Deb Tarrant, it will be called Tarrant Arena, according to a Dec. 18 Burlington Free Press article.
The multipurpose center, approved by the Board of Trustees Oct. 26, will include renovations on the Gutterson Fieldhouse, fitness center, Patrick Gym and classroom spaces.
It will also include new facility health and wellness spaces.
The project is expected to cost $95 million, paid in donations and student fees which will begin once the project is completed, according to a Nov. 1 Cynic article.
The Tarrants made a donation to the events center and the family feels a connection to UVM, according to the Free Press article.
An alumni and former basketball player at St. Michaels College in Colchester, Rich Tarrant said he attributes some of the success of his health care information technology business to UVM’s early support, according to the Free Press.
All of three of the Tarrant’s sons played sports at UVM.

No need for this $95 m project while athletic scholarships are being cut.

Besides your using the wrong word, you then say he went to St. Mike’s.
