Cats win over UMBC

After a three game losing streak starting in mid December, the Catamounts started an equally long win streak beginning with their win  Jan. 7 over Maine 68-54. They followed that win with two home victories against Stony Brook University and Dartmouth College.

Last night the Catamounts defeated the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Bulldogs 71-54. The Cats are now 9-8 on the season and 4-0 within their conference. The team has improved since a rough start, they are 6-2 at home and 3-6 away.

Vermont and UMBC held the score close in the first half of the game with the Cats leading 33-31 at the half. In the second half the Catamounts  was able to beat the Bulldogs 38-23 to squeeze out another win on the road . Junior Ethan O’Day lead the team in scoring, with 15 total points and 7 rebounds.

The Catamounts take on the Binghamton Bearcats in the Patrick Gym at 7 p.m Jan. 19. The Bearcats are 2-18 on the season and are 0-10 when playing on the road.

The Catamounts will then face their rivals, the University of New Hampshire Wildcats in Durham.  The Wildcats are 9-9 overall and 5-3 at home. They have won 3 of their last four games.

O’Day leads the Catamounts in scoring with 11.5 average points per game. The Catamounts hope to continue the win streak and come out of the season with a positive win percentage, as they have under head coach John Becker for the past 3 seasons.

Following the game against New Hampshire, the Catamounts will face UMass-Lowell  Jan. 25.
