The UVM men’s lacrosse team hosted the Harvard Crimson Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field.
Entering the home opener, the Catamounts looked to bounce back after a tough four-game road trip set their record at 1-3.
Early on, the Catamounts showed they came ready to play. Sophomore midfielder Tristan Whitaker scored in the first 40 seconds, and the Cats added three more goals in the opening four minutes.
However, the Crimson scored five unanswered goals in response and ended the first quarter with an even 6-6 score. The second quarter continued the back and forth play, with each squad scoring three goals in the period, entering the half knotted up at 9-9.
After a strong Catamount first half, the Crimson offense responded with an attack that tallied four scores in the third quarter. Harvard’s defense brought the Catamount attack to a halt, forcing seven turnovers in the quarter.
The UVM offense scored on three of their eight shots of the fourth quarter, but Harvard converted two more for themselves in the final quarter to hold onto the victory.
The Catamounts go on the road this upcoming Saturday as they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts to take on the UMass Minutemen.
