About the Die-In…

Oh thank heaven that people arrived in Cook Commons to “die” in protest of the war on Iraq! Now that a group of students in a school renowned for its hippie reputation have protested in such a thoughtful manner, I am sure that there will be no war. In fact, I am certain that Bush tore up the writ from Congress that gives him the permission to declare war. His aides must have called him away from a meeting order to say, “A small group of students in a liberal state thinks that your war is BAD!” And Bush must have wept, for who could stand the disapproval of a small band of liberal students? It never ceases to amaze me how students who so vehemently oppose this war choose to go about their protests in such a poor manner. Try something useful. Write your representative, protest in Washington or at least in a public and recognizable place. George W Bush cares about two things right now: his chances for reelection and his place in the history books. Upsetting a handful of students in a dining hall is not going to affect either.Charlie MartinClass of 2004
