Sophomore Marqus Blakely earned his tenth straight double-double as the Cats improved their record to 8-6, defeating UNC-Wilmington 84-73 last Saturday in what was UVM’s final non-conference game of the season.The Cats had five players in the double digits, shooting 50 percent from the floor. Blakely led the team with 19 points, 19 rebounds and five assists. Junior Mike Trimboli had 15 points, while freshman Joey Accaoui added 13. Sophomore Nick Vier chipped in 12 points and senior Kyle Cieplicki scored 11.UNCW’s TJ Carter scored a game-high 24 points and Vladimir Kuljanin tallied 11.Blakely, who technically earned his tenth double-double in the first half of Saturday’s game – 12 points, 11 rebounds – now sits at the top of five America East Individual Leader StatisticsHe averages 19.8 points per game, 11.1 rebounds per game (7.16 defensive, 3.92 offensive – both the highest in the conference) and 2.56 blocked shots per game.His 277 rebounds this season places him seventeenth in the nation in that category.The sophomore also put on an impressive performance last Wednesday when UVM defeated Hartford 94-82 at Patrick Gym. Blakely tied a career-high 30 points and set a new personal record with 20 rebounds.The win vaulted the Catamounts to third in the Amerca East standings (8-6).Trimboli added 22 points, Accaoui tallied 14 and Cieplicki had 10 to help push past the Hawks – winners of five straight coming in – and end UVM’s three game losing streak.Hartford freshman Morgan Sabia led the Hawks with 21 points while junior Michael Turner added 19.Accaoui has played a huge role in the success of the team’s recent wins, stepping up off the bench to score in the double digits in the past two games.Seniors Cieplicki, Chad Powlovich and Tim McCrory will play their last home game this Sunday at 1 p.m. when UVM hosts the Maine Black Bears.
