Diversity and Equality Unit without executive director

The Diversity and Equity Unit at UVM may temporarily be without an executive director as of Sept. 1, when Kathryn Friedman will step down and move to Washington, D.C. The unit includes the Office of Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity, the Women’s Center, the ALANA Student Center and LGBTQA Services, President Daniel Mark Fogel said in an e-mail to the student body. “Kathryn Friedman’s professionalism, passion and commitment have been instrumental, and in some key areas she has in my view been indispensable,” President Fogel said. “We are grateful to her, and we will miss her very much.” Information regarding the future director of the Diversity and Equity Unit will be released after consultation with various campus leaders, the e-mail stated.
