Engineering professor passes away after a career of 40 years

Co-creator of UVM’s Technology And Society Connection (TASC) competition and UVM professor of 40 years, Howard J. Carpenter passed away recently. College, high school, and middle school students alike were inspired by his passion for engineering, Dawn Densmore, the director of Outreach and Public Relations, said.Carpenter served as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering until his retirement in 1987. Before teaching at UVM, Carpenter worked for General Electric and NASA, Densmore said.A memorial service will be held on May 29 at 2 p.m. at the Williston Federated Church in Williston, she sai.
