Mr Fogel’s apology to the female “victim” of the mistaken detention on campus after a robbery only underscores the gestapo mentality and tactics of both campus, city and state police at UVM. The President might wonder if the consistant unprofessional behavior and intimidating manner of the police is largely responsible for the lousy morale on campus. Students who transfer from UVM consistantly rank the campus “police state” atmosphere as one of the primary reasons for leaving. Fogel can do mighty work to improve academics but until he finds the courage to address police abuses on campus, an atmosphere of higher learning will not prevail.
