Jack Birmingham elected SGA Vice-President, write-ins favored Kingbread for president

?With the votes counted, Connor Daley will remain SGA president and sophomore Jack Birmingham will be his vice-president next term.?Despite Daley having won an uncontested race, several voters wrote in Kevin “Kingbread” Martin’s name for the presidential candidate. ??It was a tough competition,? Daley said. ?There were a lot of write-ins. Kingbread came in second place.??But for the two main contenders? Birmingham ran against sophomore Aya Al-Namee?the race for the VP seat was close, with Birmingham having received 415 votes to Al-Namee?s 372.?The main issues Birmingham outlined in his campaign included increasing communication and transparency of SGA, tackling the ?Sodexo monopoly?, and bringing more local food and vendors to campus, according to his campaign?s Facebook page.?He also stated he was against the proposed tobacco ban.?Daley is the second student in UVM history to run for a second term and said that his experience as president will make it easier ?to connect the dots for students better.???Half of the job is learning how to navigate the University,? Daley said.?While he said his priorities would adjust to what SGA has already completed, he plans to launch a listening tour to assess what work needs to be done.??We are constantly reassessing ourselves to make sure we are doing an okay job in supporting students,? Daley said.?Once fall semester starts, Daley said he will be talking to as many clubs as possible, visiting residential communities and floors, walking through downtown to see what students are looking for.?Daley said he looks forward to working with Birmingham.??There is a definitely a big learning curve because he hasn’t been on the body for long but he is energetic and passionate, so I am hopeful,? Daley said.?Birmingham could not be reached Thursday morning, but he did post a status on his Facebook event page thanking his supporters. ?Thanks a million everyone who got the vote out today and yesterday,? he posted. ?This was without a doubt one of the most difficult two days in my life.??As for candidate Al-Namee, she said she is weighing her options and is not sure if she is going to stay in SGA.??I am keeping my options open right now,? she said. ?I still don?t know if I am going to run for senate.??With the presidential elections complete, senatorial elections will be starting on April 3rd at 8 a.m. through April 4th at 4 p.m. on the Lynx webpage.?Results from the election:?Total votes: 809President-elect: Connor Daley 613Second place: KingbreadVice?president candidates:Jack Birmingham 415Aya Al-Namee 372
