Palmer Finishes Just Short of Clinching AE Championship

University of Vermont junior Michele Palmer was Vermont’s top runner at the NCAA Northeast Qualifier as of Saturday afternoon. The race was held at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, New York and was one of the most difficult courses of the season. Palmer completed the 6K course in a time of 21:27.0 and was the second runner from an America East school across the finish line. Stony Brook’s Jennifer Payne, the America East Champion, finished ahead of Palmer, posting a time of 21:04.8. The Catamounts placed 13th overall out of 36 teams in the women’s competition. Junior Tee Gingras and sophomore Alexandra Hill placed among the top 100 runners. Gingras finished 74th with a time of 23:00.3, while Hill was clocked at 23:12.2, good for 83rd place. On the men’s side, senior captain Chris Van Cott continued his strong season. He led the Vermont men to a 25th place finish out of 33 teams.
