Pediatrics professor elected to national medical organization

Lewis First, a UVM professor, was recently elected chairman of the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), according to a University Communications article. First is currently the Chief of Pediatrics at the Vermont Children’s Hospital in Fletcher Allen, editor and chief of a pediatrics journal and the associate dean of the College of Medicine, the article stated. First received the National Education Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2006 and recently helped publish a pediatric medicine textbook, according to the article. The NBME is a not-for-profit organization. The medical examinations that are made possible through the organization are widely used throughout the medical education community, the article stated.
