Last fall the cycling club team sent nine riders down to Banner Elk, N.C. where they came in fifth at the Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals. The team is one of UVM’s larger clubs, comprised of over 70 active members. They compete year round in the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC), traveling throughout the northeast for competitions. The team took the ECCC overall, controlling the fall mountain bike season.”We have become a dominant force on the east coast,” said James Patterson, presi?dent of the club.”We had a great fall, beating teams with 10 times the budget we had,” said Patter?son, “and our goal is to go and place high in the collegiate road nationals in the spring.”The spring season starts up in March, with UVM hosting a race on April 19-20.With all the success the cycling club has generated, they have gotten recognition from various sponsors, the most notably from Ski Rack.Despite the success the cycling club has had, they haven’t stopped their search for improvement. “Really anyone can join,” said Patterson, “If you’re looking to have a good time, or just cycle.”Want to see your club sport featured in The Cynic?E-mail [email protected]
