Women’s Tennis Wins Two, Improves to 6-9

The University of Vermont topped Albany, 5-2, in America East women’s tennis on Friday afternoon.

The win was the Catamounts (6-9) fourth in their last five matches.

The Catamounts won four of the six singles matches and then picked up a point in doubles by taking two of three.

Mandy Harrison, at number two, came from behind to win her singles match, 4-6, 6-3 (10-2) and then teamed up with Maika Foukal to win in doubles.

Foukal also was a straight sets winner in singles.

Prior to heading to Texas for spring break, Vermont closed out their home stand hosting Hartford on Saturday at 2:30pm

Then the team won its sixth match in seven contests with a 5-2 victory over visiting Hartford at Patrick Gym.

The Catamounts doubles-squads swept the Hawks, while UVM’s #1, #2, #3 and #6 singles players earned victories.

Junior Molly Moran was a double-winner, posting a 7-5, 6-4 victory at #1 singles over Hartford’s Ana Mova and earning an 8-4 victory with teammate Kyna Delaney at #1 doubles. Laura Beth Halter teamed with Alie Taylor to earn an 8-3 victory at #2 doubles and Halter defeated Alexis Alexander, 6-1, 6-1, to pick up a win at #2 singles. Taylor also won her #6 singles match, 6-1, 6-0. Mandy Harrison earned a straight-sets victory over Lauren Perry at #3 singles and also registered a win at #3 doubles with Maika Foukal.

Vermont improves to 6-9 on the season and heads to Texas for four matches over spring break.
