It’s Valentine’s Day, and the Cynic is in the mood for love.
In today’s world, it feels as though situationships, friends with benefits and all sorts of other phrases that describe non-relationship relationships are all the rage. I decided to dedicate this Valentine’s Day to those who are serious, committed and in love.
If you weren’t already sick of couples taking over your Instagram feed, here’s a few more for good measure. Hear their stories below; maybe by this time next year you will be in the same boat.
Senior Aaron Perkel and junior Riley Pantalena originally met on Tinder, but were both in the same class in Billings Lecture Hall.
They eventually skipped class together, retrieving cotton candy from Cat Pause and seeing how much of it they could dissolve in water. The so-called campus celebrity and his girlfriend just celebrated their two year anniversary.

First-year Mia Rietzel and sophomore Lucy Colby knew of each other in high school, and began talking when Rietzel wanted help learning how to work her new camera. They became a couple last summer.

Jackie DeBerardinis and James Pearson met at North Beach their first year of college. Pearson remembers calling DeBerardinis crazy for jumping off a cliff into the water. They are both now sophomores, and have been going strong ever since beating their friends in a chicken fight at the beach.

Alison Nichols and James Birch are seniors that met at a British themed party. Birch was in an Adidas track jacket, dressed as a “bloke.” The two started dating a few months later.

Ivy Buonanduci and Jack Nilsen, both sophomores, met by talking about music on Instagram last summer. By September, Jack asked Ivy to be his girlfriend. He FaceTimes her from Cannes, France where he is studying abroad.

Madeline Schmidt and Andrew Sharkey were in the same fifth grade class. They began dating in high school and have maintained a long-distance relationship over the course of their first year of college.
