On Nov. 6, Zest A Cappella hosted a lively and entertaining wig-themed concert.
At 7:00 p.m., audience members lined up at the doors of the Interfaith Center adorned in colorful wigs.
By 7:05 p.m. nearly every seat in the room was filled.
“The Interfaith Center has a really awesome sound from the high ceilings,” said senior Alexander Rubin. “It has a really cozy, intimate vibe.”
The stage was filled with colorful streamers and sparkly fringe highlighted with orange-tinted lights that pointed towards the microphones.
The group Hit Paws, another campus a cappella group, took the stage to open for the concert. The audience cheered as they entered the building.
They impressed the audience with beautiful renditions of “OK, It’s Alright With Me” by Eric Hutchinson and “Add Up My Love” by Clairo.
They ended their set with “Sour Candy” by Melt before introducing Zest A Cappella.
The members matched the crowd with wigs of all different colors as they walked onto stage.
The group started with an incredible version of “Dive” by Olivia Dean followed by “First Light” by Hozier and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” by Stevie Wonder and then ending with “Eleanor Rigby” by The Beatles.
After a small intermission, the show continued with a mashup of “to you” and “wanted” by WILLOW, featuring Kamasi Washington.
Junior Ella Freund shared the difficulty they had learning the mashup of these two songs.
“The vibe of the song is unlike any of the other songs that we have on our set. We are using our voices percussively, and our dynamics and vocal effects basically change every phrase,” Freund said.
Zest then continued with “Fall Into Place” by Couch and “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green.
They then invited Zest alums in the audience to join them on stage before singing an emotional rendition of “In My Life” by The Beatles.
The show came to a close with the upbeat vibe of “Dr. Funk” by The Main Squeeze.
Zest received a standing ovation for their wiggy performance.
“We initially wanted a Halloween concert, but then we couldn’t get a spot for the Halloween weekend, and so we were like, ‘Okay, what’s fun and costumey?’ and it’s wig-tastic,” said sophomore Aubrey Schwanfelder-Nelken.
This fun wig-themed event is not Zest’s last performance this semester, however.
The last show will be their winter concert collaboration with the group Viridescent held on Dec. 5.
