The Student Government Association is now sharing monthly updates on our initiatives and progress to further our transparency and accountability. They will be published at the beginning of every month, detailing the activities of the previous month and our goals for the upcoming month. We thank the Vermont Cynic for supporting this idea.
November was a busy month filled with numerous events and projects coming to fruition. This is our final report for the semester, and we are wrapping up our last initiatives to end the semester strong.
Goal #1: Expanding support amid the current political climate
Our Student Action and Wellbeing, and Public Relations Committees held the semester’s Week of Kindness, which took place from Nov. 10 to 14. We were delighted by the turnout and hope the week served as a warm reminder to take care of yourselves and those around you.
Additionally, alongside Together Vermont, we collected 50 winter coats throughout the week to be donated to Vermonters.
Our Committee on Legislative and Community Affairs hosted its Community Coalition meeting with the Office of Off-Campus Resources on Nov. 14. Both UVM affiliates and community members attended this monthly meeting to discuss pressing issues facing Burlington and Vermont. The next meeting will be held on Dec. 5.
Goal #2: Leading sexual violence prevention efforts
The Club Affairs Committee hosted another training, “EndTab: Dating and Sexual Safety in the Digital Age,” on Nov. 6. Attendees from both UVM and Champlain College learned more about digital sexual violence and ways to be a more active bystander.
Goal #3: Enhancing SGA operations and increasing our visibility
We held our third SGA pop-up event in Kalkin Hall on Nov. 13, where we had breakfast for students walking to class. We are excited to host more of these events next semester to reach more parts of campus.
On Nov. 8, we held a Community Clean-Up that brought together many students to clean our neighboring streets. Additionally, on Nov. 9, the Committee on the Environment held a TEDx event featuring undergraduate and graduate students sharing their personal stories with incorporating sustainability into their lives.
We partnered with UVM Athletics at two SGA games for our women’s hockey and men’s hockey teams. We passed out the SGA thundersticks at both games and were excited to be there to support our incredible student athletes.
Looking Ahead
Our SGA Town Hall event will take place Dec. 3 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Davis Center Jost Foundation Room. We’ll be answering questions and listening to ideas on how we can better represent the student body.
Our Academic Affairs Committee is currently finalizing the Week of Wellness, which will take place during Finals Week from Dec. 8 to 12. This initiative started last semester and is centered on showing students we care during a stressful time.
