Elected officials and members of the UVM community gathered inside the Ira Allen Chapel just after 1:30 p.m. to official install UVM’s new President Suresh Garimella.

In the audience was former Governor of Vermont Jim Douglas, Attorney General TJ Donovan, current Governor Phil Scott and U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy. Governor Phil Scott said it was an honor to be back at his alma mater.

“As a land grant college and the state’s only research university, it’s hard to overstate the importance of UVM,” Scott said.

UPDATE: Just after 2:20 p.m. David Dagle, the chair of the Board of Trustees presented the university mace to President Suresh Garimella, symbolizing the transition into a new chapter of UVM history.
